Add-Remove

Add-Remove is a replacement for the built-in Windows Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet.

It's much faster than the built-in Windows 2000/XP one. Why is Add/Remove Programs so slow? Mostly because it wastes a lot of time trying to guess useless, made-up, or wrong information about program size, frequency of use, or the program icon.

Add-Remove has a couple of nice enhancements such as the ability to search the list. Other than that, it is very similar and does not try to add anything new. It does not try to track system changes itself, unlike some other Add-Remove enhancers.

Windows Vista: Add-Remove works on Vista, 32-bit at least. I have no idea how slow or fast Vista's new-look Add/Remove is, I have only seen it briefly with few installed programs. Let me know! Of course Vista finally has a search for this, so that's one less feature benefit.

Risks of using this program

As a practical matter, since it only runs existing application uninstallers the same as the built-in applet, and the original uninstall applet is still available, this should be a low-risk application. If it doesn't work, just stop using it. It does not modify any system settings itself, even the registry for the programs in question. It does save it's own settings (window size and position) to the registry.
